Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2032, having secured a rotational deal which will see the sport race at the track in 2028, 2030 and 2032.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host Formula 1 races in four of the next seven seasons following the signing of a new rotational deal. Formerly the host of the Spanish Grand Prix, Catalunya becomes host of the Barcelona Grand Prix in 2026, with the latest race at the track set to take place on June 12-14. The track will not appear on the calendar in 2027, but will host races in 2028, 2030 and 2032.

Catalunya first joined the Formula 1 calendar in 1991, having been built as part of the 1992 Olympic Games development programme in Barcelona. It hosted the Spanish Grand Prix in every following season – but the event moves to the new Madring circuit in Madrid in 2026. The new Madrid race makes its debut in September.

Speaking about the new deal for Catalunya, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali noted the circuit’s significant investment in improving the fan experience at the circuit, having constructed a new rooftop viewing area, built a new hospitality space and hosted fan festivals ahead of each of the last two race weekends:

“Barcelona is an incredible city, and the Formula 1 fans there always welcome us with such passion, so I am delighted that we will continue to race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for years to come. The team have invested heavily in the circuit and hosted fantastic fan festivals in recent years, so we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience, both for attendees at the race and for the city as a whole […] I can’t wait to see our brilliant fans in Barcelona in June!”

Catalunya to Rotate with Spa-Francorchamps

There has been long-term speculation over the future of Catalunya’s tenure on the calendar since Madrid was announced as the new host of the Spanish Grand Prix back in January 2024. The writing seemed to be on the wall for the Barcelona track when the return of the Portuguese Grand Prix was announced in December 2025. Portimao will make its return to the calendar after a six-year absence in 2027.

However, soon after, it emerged that Formula 1 was weighing up a rotational deal to keep the Barcelona track on the schedule after all. With it now being confirmed that it will appear on the calendar on a rotational basis, Spain will host two Grands Prix in 2028, 2030 and 2032.

From 2027 onwards, Catalunya will appear on the calendar in the seasons that Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps does not. It was revealed in January 2025 that the Belgian Grand Prix – another event which had previously faced speculation on its longer-term future – will enter into a rotational deal and will not appear on the calendar in 2028 and 2030.

It is reported that organisers of the Belgian Grand Prix had attempted to turn their existing contract back into an annual deal – but the latest confirmation that Catalunya will rotate with the event suggests that the attempts were unsuccessful.
