Charles Leclerc has spoken openly about the delicate balance between his career, emotions and private life, offering a behind-the-scenes look at what it means to live with global fame as a Ferrari driver.
Charles Leclerc recently explained why he and his partner, Alexandra Saint Mleux, decided to make their engagement public, and how the Ferrari driver works to maintain a balance between his professional career, family life and personal privacy.
The fame of the 28-year-old Monegasque driver exploded in 2019 with his arrival at Ferrari, a moment that coincided with the global success of Netflix’s Drive to Survive. Today, Leclerc boasts 22.2 million followers on Instagram and 3.6 million on X, figures that underline the scale of his popularity well beyond the Formula 1 paddock.
“In the end, I’m so lucky to do what I love. To be in the team I always dreamed of driving for, and to have so much support everywhere, is incredible,” the driver told RACER. “Yes, there’s a bit less privacy. Or you can have privacy, but you have to organise yourself much better than when I had a normal life! But there are so many positive aspects that it’s not an issue, and I can’t complain.”
The decision to share important moments from his private life, such as the engagement announcement on 2 November, reflects a desire to share positive news with fans while still preserving family calm as much as possible.
“It’s nice to share some of this really positive news for us and for the people who follow us,” Leclerc explained. “Sometimes, I would just like to spend time with my mother and live a normal life, but it’s a bit more difficult now.”
Formula 1 and private life: a delicate balance
The Ferrari driver highlighted how his passion for Formula 1 inevitably affects his personal life, both in moments of joy and during more difficult periods. “If I have a very bad race, I come home feeling down. If I have a great race, I come home happier. With experience, though, you try to separate the two as much as possible, because at the end of the day you just have to reset. After every race, my main objective is to reset, whether it was good or bad, and start again.”
Leclerc stressed that over the years he has learned how to manage the emotions that come from racing, trying to protect his private sphere without giving up the passion that pushed him all the way to the top of Formula 1.
“All I have is family, friends and racing. When you have so much passion for something, you live those moments to the fullest. And that means that emotions inevitably also affect my private life.”
Through this interview, Charles Leclerc shows a more human and reflective side, describing how life as a top Formula 1 driver is a constant search for balance between public and private, victories and disappointments, the affection of fans and moments of family intimacy.
