Chennedy Carter is a notable name on the list of free agents this offseason. She has shown glimpses of her potential but it remains to be seen whether she’ll continue her growth with the Chicago Sky or open a new chapter in her career elsewhere.
On Monday night, Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times shared the list of players who received an initial qualifying offer from Sky.
“Sky have sent out qualifying offers have gone out to Michaela Onyenwere, Dana Evans and Nikolina Milić,” Costabile tweeted on X.
Carter, who made the 2020 All-Rookie Team, is seemingly not a part of the Sky’s long-term plans.
This past season, Carter played 33 games for the Sky and was named a starter 20 times. ‘Hollywood’ averaged 17.5 points per game on 48.7% shooting, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.1 steals. Carter received three votes to finish fourth in the Most Improved Player list.
The Sky front office would be looking to bounce back from a dismal 13-27 season. Chicago missed the playoffs for the first time in five seasons and finished dead last in the Eastern Conference.
Already, the dominoes have started falling. After the Sky’s season came to an end last September, the team let go of head coach Teresa Weatherspoon. A key acquisition or trade (perhaps one that involves Carter) could be next.
Chennedy Carter is having a blast in the offseason
While she awaits her fate in Chicago, Chennedy Carter is showcasing her skills on the other side of the globe.
Clips of her games with the Wuhan Shengfan Cranes have made the rounds on social media, and ‘Hollywood’ is seemingly determined to ball out in the offseason:
During one sequence in a Wuhan Shengfan game this past weekend, Carter stole the ball and went the length of the court with the rock in her hands. Executing a beautiful spin move, she swished the long-distance shot from beyond the arc.
Carter showcased that she has plenty to offer to any team that wants to take a chance on her in free agency. It may just be a matter of time before she signs a contract and dons a new WNBA jersey.
