Chicago Sky star Chennedy Carter took to social media to celebrate her coach’s recent career advancement. Carter, currently playing in China for the Wuhan Shengfan during the off-season, is leading the league in scoring. She had a brief message for the team’s coach, Li Jianxin, who was appointed as the national U-16 coach.
“My head coach just received national team honors based off our team’s play this season. He will leave to coach the Chinese U16 women’s team! Incredible season, and run we had love you Coach Lee,” she wrote.
Carter’s team is currently ranked second in the WCBA league standings with 13 wins and 3 losses, tying with the Daqing Rural team. The league consists of 21 teams divided into three divisions, with Wuhan Shengfan competing in Group B.
Joining Carter in Wuhan Shengfan’s starting five is former K-State forward Peyton Williams, who is another American player on the team.
Chennedy Carter receives unusual award in Chinese league
Chennedy Carter was presented with a “Good Temper Award” during her time in China’s WCBA basketball league in November. This award recognized Carter’s efforts to control her emotions throughout the season, given her typically bold and outspoken nature.
The WCBA acknowledged her progress during the 2024-25 season, praising her for maturing and taking responsibility despite her passionate demeanor being described as a “double-edged sword.”
In July 2021, Carter was indefinitely banned by the Atlanta Dream for “conduct detrimental to the team” after an altercation with a teammate. She was later traded to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2022 but was waived by March 2023 after playing only 24 games and starting just two. Her time with the Sparks ended due to poor conduct that led to her being benched.
