Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark won’t have to wait long to renew their rivalry during the next WNBA season.
The WNBA released its 2025 schedule on Monday, and opening weekend features a Reese-versus-Clark matchup right off the bat when the Chicago Sky begin their season in Indianapolis against Clark and the Indiana Fever at noon on Saturday, May 17.

The WNBA season begins the night before, on Friday, May 16, with three games. The Sky have posted their full 2025 schedule on the team website.
Clark, of course, is the most popular player in the WNBA right now and one of the most popular figures in all of sports, for that matter.

After setting the all-time NCAA Division I scoring record for men and women during her incredible career at the University of Iowa, Clark was the No. 1 overall pick by the Fever in last year’s WNBA Draft and went on to win Rookie of the Year honors while significantly boosting league ratings and popularity.
College days
But every star needs a rival, and Reese has certainly played that role to Clark, going back to their college days.

Drafted No. 7 overall out of LSU by the Sky in last year’s draft, Reese also had a stellar rookie campaign last season, setting a WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles and finishing second to Clark in Rookie of the Year voting.
In 2023, Reese’s LSU squad topped Clark’s Iowa squad in the NCAA women’s national championship game, when both were juniors.
Last season, when both were seniors, they played a rematch in the regional finals, with a trip to the Final Four on the line. Clark’s Hawkeyes got the better of Reese’s Tigers that time around on their way to a second straight appearance in the national title game.

However, in that game, Iowa was defeated by South Carolina, which was led by Kamilla Cardoso, now a Sky teammate of Reese. The Sky took Cardoso No. 3 overall in last spring’s draft, four picks before they selected Reese and two after the Fever took Clark.
The Fever went 3-1 against the Sky last season.
Home opener vs. defending champs
After playing Clark and the Fever to begin the season, the Sky open their 2025 home schedule with another marquee matchup.
They’ll host the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.
Chicago’s longest homestand of the season will be four games, which it will have twice, from July 9-16 and Aug. 1-7. The Sky will close the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 11, at home against the Liberty.

And their other matchups with Clark and the Fever? There are four more after the opener: Saturday, June 7, in Chicago (a Commissioner’s Cup game); Saturday, July 26, in Chicago; Saturday, Aug. 9, in Indianapolis; and Friday, Sept. 5, in Indianapolis.
The Sky missed the WNBA playoffs last season after going five straight seasons from 2019-23, including their lone championship in the 2021 season.
Chicago will also be under the direction of a new head coach in 2025.
The Sky announced early last month that they had hired Tyler Marsh to replace Teresa Weatherspoon, who was fired in September after just one season.
