The Chicago Sky are hoping to compete for a spot in the 2025 WNBA playoffs after a disappointing finish last season. While No. 7 overall pick Angel Reese had a strong rookie season, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, Chicago finished last in the Eastern Conference with a 13-27 record.
Reshaping the roster this offseason, Chicago also made a head coaching move. Parting ways with Teresa Weatherspoon, the Sky brought in Tyler Marsh to be the franchise’s new head coach.

Not done making moves, Chicago drafted TCU star Hailey Van Lith 11th overall. Speaking with reporters on Thursday, the 23-year-old made it clear she is focused on developing her ability as a point guard (via Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune).

Following the news that Van Lith was not only headed to Chicago, but plans to play point guard, the team made a coaching move that could help streamline her development. On Monday, the Sky announced they had hired Aaron Johnson as player development coach.
“The Chicago Sky finalized the rest of their support staff ahead of the 2025 season under Head Coach Tyler Marsh,” the team wrote. “Aaron Johnson is joining the staff as a player development coach.”
Per the team’s official press release, Marsh said of Johnson, “I’m very excited to have Aaron join our staff at the Sky. I’ve played alongside him in college and know how much passion and knowledge he brings to the game. He is committed to maximizing player potential, and I know our players will benefit greatly from his expertise and experience.”

With new young talent in the organization, Chicago seemingly made it a priority to bolster its player development staff. Van Lith, along with Maddy Westbeld, Aicha Coulibaly and potentially Ajša Sivka, have a chance to contribute right away for a Sky team that has postseason aspirations.
