Aicha Coulibaly, a senior guard from Mali, was picked No. 22 in the second round of the WNBA Draft on Monday by the Chicago Sky. Other former Aggies who have made it to the WNBA include Sydney Colson (Indiana Fever) and Chennedy Carter.
Coulibaly was the Aggies’ leading scorer before a devastating knee injury that ended her season Jan. 26 against LSU. She led the team with 12.8 points per game, averaged 14.1 during conference play and had a strong ability to finish around the rim. Coulibaly finished the season as the third-leading scorer for the Aggies with 244 points.
Fellow Chicago Sky draftees include Ajša Sivka (Slovenia), Hailey Van Lith (TCU) and Maddy Westbeld (Notre Dame).
It is not uncommon for WNBA teams to draft players who are recovering from injuries and keep them as part of the team. Notably, former Virginia Tech Hokie Elizabeth Kitley tore her ACL on March 3, 2024 and was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces. Kitley has used the Aces facilities in her recovery process and is expected to be on the court this season.
WNBA training camp begins April 27 before the season opens May 16.
