Chicago Sky Make Devastating Announcement After Blowout Loss to Indiana Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Chicago Sky returned to action on Saturday night after a full week off, but their performance showed clear signs of rust in a 79–52 loss to the Indiana Fever—who were without stars Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham.

However, the loss took a back seat to a much more significant blow: a first-half injury to veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot, who has been a key source of production and leadership for this young Sky roster.
On Sunday, after undergoing an MRI, the team announced that Vandersloot suffered a season-ending torn ACL—a devastating loss that will likely impact the Sky deeply for the remainder of the season.
Courtney Vandersloot underwent an MRI yesterday that revealed a right torn anterior crucial ligament (ACL), an injury she sustained in the June 7th game against Indiana,” Sky posted on social media. “Vandersloot will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season and undergo surgery to repair the injury. All of Skytown is behind you Sloot.”
Vandersloot, 36, recently became the all-time leading scorer in Chicago Sky franchise history during the first two weeks of the 2025 WNBA season. A longtime staple of the organization, she played a pivotal role in leading the Sky to their first WNBA championship in 2021.

After spending the past two seasons with the New York Liberty—where she won her second career title in 2024—she returned to Chicago this offseason on a one-year deal.

Through seven games, with the Sky sitting at 2–5 overall, Vandersloot’s 15th WNBA season will come to a close with averages of 10.6 points, 5.3 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game.
