Key Points

Kamilla Cardoso excelled in her second WNBA season despite Sky’s poor record.Cardoso announced she’s joining Project B, a new global 5-on-5 basketball league.Project B offers high salaries, global tournaments, and features multiple WNBA stars.

Chicago Sky star Kamilla Cardoso had a memorable second season in the WNBA in 2025. The 6-foot-7 center played 40 games for the Sky this past season, averaging 13.6 points on 52.8% shooting, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 blocks in 27.6 minutes per contest.

Cardoso’s strong play, however, was far from enough to help her team find success in the league. The Sky finished with a 10-34 standing, which is tied with the Dallas Wings for the worst standing record in the WNBA.

On Friday, Cardoso took to social media to officially announce a big career move outside the WNBA.

Cardoso joined the Sky in 2024 as the third overall pick in the draft. Chicago selected her four spots ahead of Angel Reese, who went seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Cardoso and Reese have been the cornerstones of the Sky’s young core. Together, these two have established themselves as one of the most effective frontcourt pairings in the league.

Cardoso announced on Friday that she has signed up for Project B, which is a new global 5-on-5 league. Project B plans to hold its inaugural campaign from November 2026 through April 2027, which falls within the WNBA offseason.

“Hi everyone, Kamilla Cardoso here,” she said in an announcement post on Instagram. “I’m really excited to finally announce that I’ll be joining Project B.

“Being able to travel, getting to know new places, this is such a blessing that I don’t take for granted. I’m also super proud of being able to represent Brazil, and I can’t wait to get started. Let’s get it!”

As Cardoso indicated in her statement, Project B’s unique format involves multiple tournaments worldwide. Games will be played in different global cities across Asia, Europe and Latin America. According to reports, Project B has offered seven-figure salaries to attract stars, starting at $2 million annually, in addition to shared equity in the league.

Cardoso, who is playing abroad in China during the WNBA offseason, is part of the second batch of players officially announced on Friday, alongside Li Meng and Janelle Salaun. Big-name WNBA stars that were previously announced were Jewell Loyd, Jonquel Jones, Alyssa Thomas and WNBA Players Association President Nneka Ogwumike.
