Two WNBA teams play their final game before the All-Star Break when the Chicago Sky (9-14, 4th East) take on the Las Vegas Aces (16-7, 1st West). Chicago just lost by 14 at home to the New York, and Las Vegas are coming off a 12 point win on the road in Washington. These teams met once already this season, with the Aces winning by 12 on the road back in late June. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:00 EST from Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, and can be found on Amazon Prime Video.
Let’s get into your favorite WNBA picks for tonight’s matchup between Chicago and Las Vegas.
Sky Lose Three of Four
The Chicago Sky are looking for some good news heading into the All-Star Break, as they have lost three of their last four games. On top of that, Angel Reese’s historical streak of consecutive double-doubles finally came to an end against the Liberty. Reese finished the game with 16 rebounds, but just eight points as she shot 3-13 from the field. Chicago is now 8th in the overall standings, holding a two game advantage over Atlanta in ninth place.
Reese will be the team’s lone representative at the All-Star game, playing as a member of Team WNBA. Reese leads the league in rebounding with 12.0 per game, while scoring 13.5 PPG. Reese had 16 consecutive double-doubles before her streak finally came to an end. The leading scorer on the team is Chennedy Carter, she is a 5’9 guard getting 16.4 PPG and 2.7 APG. The top shooter on the team is Marina Mabrey, she knocks down 2.3 threes per game and scores another 14.0 PPG while grabbing 5.0 RPG as a 5’11 guard.
Chicago is 11th out of the 12 teams in the WNBA in scoring with 78.7 PPG, and their defense ranks 6th by allowing 81.0 PPG. Chicago makes the least amount of three pointers in the league, knocking down just 4.6 shots from deep per game. They rely on their inside play, and lead the league in rebounds per game.
Aces Climb the Standings
The Las Vegas Aces come into this game on a four-game win streak, and have taken over the top spot in the Western Conference. Las Vegas jumped Minnesota in the standings, and are now third in the league for the overall playoff push. The Aces defeated the Wings, Storm, Dream and Mystics in their winning streak, and now get the final game before the All-Star Break at home. In their last game, A’ja Wilson led the team with 28 points and 17 rebounds in a win over Washington.
The Aces have four players who will play in the All-Star Game, all on the Olympic Team. They have A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young, all of which will play in the Olympics. Wilson leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 27.2 PPG and 11.2 RPG. Wilson leads the league in scoring by a wide margin, as the next top scorer gets just 23.3 per game. Kelsey Plum is their outside shooter, she averages 18.8 PPG and 4.7 APG, while knocking down 3.1 threes per game. Jackie Young can also shoot from deep, and adds another 18.5 PPG and leads the team with 5.6 APG.
The Aces lead the league in scoring with 88.9 PPG, and their defense ranks 7th by allowing 82.6 PPG. They play fast, and aren’t afraid to bomb away from deep as they are 4th in the league in made threes at 9.6 per game. There will be a good battle in the paint in this game, as the Aces are third in the league in rebounding.
