When announcing their 2025 preseason roster, the Chicago Stars FC also announced that forward Mallory Swanson has not joined the team for the start of training camp due to personal reasons.
According to Chicago, “club leadership has been in contact with Swanson and are fully supportive of her decision.”
“I’d like to thank the club and the fans for their understanding during this time. I appreciate the kindness and encouragement from my teammates and all the Stars staff and hope to be back with the team and playing in front of our fans as soon as I can,” Swanson said, via a press release.
Chicago’s statement — in their preseason roster press release, which listed Swanson as “not yet reported” — read: “As always, the Chicago Stars organization stands ready to provide Mallory whatever support she needs, both on and off the pitch, and we will be ready to welcome her back with open arms whenever she is ready to return.”
Swanson started all 24 of her National Women’s Soccer League appearances last season, scoring seven regular-season goals and providing four assists. She joined Chicago in 2021, and was a former member of the Washington Spirit (2017-19) and Sky Blue FC (2020). Her husband Dansby plays professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs.
