The Kansas City Chiefs have a knack for winning games in the most unlikely ways.
Their victory over the Raiders on Friday left Patrick Mahomes and his teammates in disbelief.
The Raiders were within range of a game-winning field goal with 15 seconds left, but a botched snap allowed the Chiefs to escape with a 19-17 victory. This win also secured their 10th consecutive playoff berth, the second-longest streak in NFL history.
Mahomes, who watched from the sideline, commented, “Obviously a big stop in a big moment that got us the win.”
The Raiders, trailing 2-10, had a chance to score earlier in the fourth quarter. But the Chiefs defense forced three incompletions, ultimately leading to a failed field goal attempt by the Raiders.
Mahomes had 306 passing yards and a touchdown, while the Chiefs’ fill-in kicker, Matt Wright, made four field goals.
Despite their continued success in close games, the Chiefs are focused on playing better overall. Mahomes expressed, “We have to find a way to build up to play great…our goal is to get to the Super Bowl.”
The Raiders’ quarterback, Aidan O’Connell, threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, but it was not enough to defeat the Chiefs.
The Chiefs’ victory was hard-fought, as they struggled with offensive tackle performance, defensive breakdowns, and penalties throughout the game.
In the end, the Chiefs emerged victorious with a 19-17 win in a game filled with twists and turns.
