On Tuesday morning, the Kansas City Chiefs returned to the practice field at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph for the seventh full practice of the team’s 2025 training camp.

This was one of 17 sessions scheduled for the team’s practice field next to MWSU’s Spratt Stadium. Nine of the remaining practices will be open to the public — click here for details and a full schedule — while one more will be open only to the team’s Season Ticket Members.

Arrowhead Pride editor-in-chief Pete Sweeney was there. He posted some observations on social media — beginning with a very hot day in Buchanan County.

No other way to say it: hottest and longest day of St. Joe work so far. Temps were in the mid-80s, surpassing the low 90s by the workout’s end, but it felt like 1,000.

As the day went on, injuries added up.

Common for this part of camp, but the injury list is growing. Here’s the rundown. WR Xavier Worthy looked like he banged his head on the first play of practice but returned after he was evaluated in the tent. pic.twitter.com/JpPpoEYr1Y

The former San Francisco 49ers tackle started working at a new position.

Jaylon Moore mixed in at left guard today. Today’s notebook writeup is about where the offensive line stands a week into camp: https://t.co/XrMRgfLN1k

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

The defensive coordinator went back to a defensive alignment he used earlier in training camp.

DC Steve Spagnuolo ran CBs Nazeeh Johnson and Trent McDuffie outside and DB Chamarri Conner in the slot with the first team today.

CBs Jaylen Watson and Nohl Williams outside with Kevin Knowles inside with the second team.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

The team’s reserve tight end notched a couple of catches.

TE Noah Gray caught two passes from QB Patrick Mahomes in the inital 11-on-11 period. Watson broke up a Minshew pass intended for WR Skyy Moore.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

A veteran linebacker — and some running backs — also turned in good days.

In pass-pro drills, LB Drue Tranquill was a handful to deal with. Expectedly good looks from Gray and RB Kareem Hunt. I thought RB Elijah Mitchell looked a little better than advertised there.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

A pair of running backs looked good — as did some pass defenders.

RB Isiah Pacheco and Mitchell impressed me as the period shifted to one-on-one routes. CB Chris Roland-Wallace had a diving pass breakup. S Mike Edwards and LB Cole Christiansen added PBUs.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

Isiah Pacheco returned to his normal role as the lead back.

Order of touch during the Chiefs’ rush period: Pacheco, Hunt, Mitchell, Steele, Smith, Young

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

But then, the team racked up its first injury of the day.

The next 11-on-11 period is where Brown tweaked his ankle. It looked like he jumped up to make a touchdown catch but landed awkwardly. Worthy had a score on an end-around and Mahomes threw a TD to TE Travis Kelce. LB Nick Bolton broke up Mahomes’ pass to end the period.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

Still, the offense was clicking.

In Mahomes’ next turn (11-on-11), he hit WR Jalen Royals on a crosser, with Royals beating S Bryan Cook for the score. WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (called the WR room leader by Andy Reid after practice) made a leaping touchdown catch. QB Bailey Zappe threw a TD to TE Robert Tonyan.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

Continuing in RZ 11-on-11, Mahomes threw TDs to Royals and Moore, who had a nice diving catch just inside the back left pylon for his score to get a rise out of the crowd. On the final play here, rolling to his right, I think I caught Mahomes faked a behind-the-back like an NBA…

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

The placekicker was money… until he wasn’t. But he still redeemed himself.

In the field-goal period, Butker went 6-for-6 (the longest from 52) before missing from 57 and then 60. Dave Toub had Butker line up again for another 60-yard try, which he made.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

After practice, Butker said he sensed some wind and may have overswung on the first try.

“I feel like when I do my best, it’s when you just don’t even think about the wind, focus on the ball contact and normally that ball will go and you will make the kick.”

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

TE2 continued to make plays.

In 7-on-7, Mahomes hit WR Tyquan Thornton, Kelce and Gray (three times) for touchdowns. Tonyan made a brilliant catch off a tipped pass for a score. Watson, Johnson and Hicks all recorded pass breakups going up against Mahomes in 7s.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

While another tight end did something we don’t usually see.

Minshew’s scores went to WR Jimmy Holiday, WR Nikko Remigio — and Tonyan, who made a one-handed catch in the end zone. The two Tonyan touchdowns I’ve reference came on back-to-back plays from two different quarterbacks, a rarity for training camp.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

Head coach Andy Reid concluded the session with another of his famous long-drive drills… a tall order on such a hot day.

Reid concluded practice with a 12-play long-drive period, and you could tell the players were up against it. Along the line, Suamataia got 6 plays at LG before Moore checked in to replace him for 6. RB Brashard Smith fought off a defender to make a nice catch in the deep middle.

— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) July 29, 2025

The next practice will be at 9:15 a.m. Arrowhead Time on Wednesday. It will be a light practice in shells before the team takes Thursday off. As always, we will have live updates after practice begins. When it is over, linebackers will sign autographs, while defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will be among those speaking to reporters.
