Christian Horner, the boss of Red Bull, has called on Sergio Perez to improve his performance after a disappointing Singapore Grand Prix, stating that “we need two drivers firing on all cylinders.”
Perez finished in 10th place in Sunday’s race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, rounding off a challenging weekend for the Mexican driver.
During the race, Perez struggled to advance as he failed to make Q3 and spent a significant amount of time behind Franco Colapinto in the first half of the race.
In the latter part of the race, Perez also faced difficulties trying to overtake Nico Hulkenberg.
Speaking about Perez’s performance, Horner said: “Checo was stuck behind Hulkenberg for around 30 laps. He had a strong start but had trouble overtaking due to issues with traction. Despite qualifying out of position, that was the best he could do today.”
Red Bull fell further behind McLaren in the constructors’ championship, with McLaren now 41 points ahead with six races remaining.
Horner expressed his desire for more from Perez, stating: “We need both drivers performing at their best. Checo had a good weekend last time, but we need to see more consistency and strong performances like McLaren has been delivering with both drivers on the podium.”
Horner emphasized the importance of scoring big points and pushing Perez further up the field to close the gap with rivals.
On a brighter note, Max Verstappen had a better weekend, finishing second behind race winner Lando Norris.
