Coco Gauff launches second iteration of her New Balance tennis shoe
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Two years after introducing her first signature tennis shoe, the New Balance CG1, current US Open champion Coco Gauff is back with the highly anticipated New Balance CG2. This second edition builds upon the success of its predecessor while incorporating new design elements and performance enhancements that are essential for tennis players.

Aesthetic and performance: The perfect blend

Upon launching the CG1, Coco Gauff highlighted the significance of the basketball-inspired silhouette that provided the support and stability needed for her aggressive playing style. The CG2 retains this unique design in the tennis realm, ensuring consistency in both aesthetic appeal and on-court performance.

“I loved the mid-top design of the CG1 not just for the aesthetic, but also for how much support and stability it gives me on the court,” Gauff explained to Forbes’ Tim Newcomb. “There was no question we would keep the same mid-top for the CG2.”

Furthermore, the CG2 enhances breathability and comfort, allowing Coco and other wearers to move freely on the court. The shoe’s updated materials provide a lightweight yet supportive feel, enabling players to make swift lateral cuts with ease.

A design that tells a story

The CG2 is not just about performance; it is also a personal expression of Coco, both on and off the court. Several design elements pay tribute to her and her family’s shared initials—CG. These initials are etched into the toe rubber and subtly incorporated into the outsole in an abstract design, symbolizing the support system that has accompanied her on her path to becoming a tennis champion.

Additionally, Coco’s signature appears in a tennis ball on the tongue and on the left heel pull, while the number “two” adorns the right heel pull, highlighting the CG2’s significance as the second iteration of her signature shoe. The words “power” and “grace” are also strategically placed on the woven labels, embodying the qualities that define Coco’s presence on the court.

Built for performance

The CG2 is not just visually appealing; it is packed with performance features designed to enhance a player’s game. The midsole features Energy Arc carbon fiber plate technology for increased energy return, while FuelCell cushioning offers a plush feel underfoot. The outsole’s multi-surface design provides versatile performance and excellent traction on all court surfaces. Additionally, New Balance’s NDurance six-month outsole durability guarantee ensures long-lasting wear.

Power and Grace: The New York-inspired colorway

The first colorway of the CG2, named “Power and Grace,” pays homage to New York City, where Coco clinched her first Grand Slam title at the US Open last year. The oxidized blue shade represents the Statue of Liberty, while the vibrant “30 Watt” hue captures the city’s lights.

Coco’s vision brought to life

The New Balance Coco CG2 is a reflection of Coco Gauff’s journey, values, and unique style. By combining innovative performance features with thoughtful design elements, the CG2 allows players to showcase their individuality on the court while benefiting from the latest in tennis shoe technology.

Whether you’re a fan of Coco, a serious tennis player, or someone who appreciates high-performance footwear, the CG2 is a shoe that stands out both in terms of style and substance. As Coco continues to leave her mark on the tennis world, the New Balance CG2 is set to become a staple in athletes’ wardrobes everywhere.
