During their time with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2017-20, Cody Bellinger and Kiké Hernández were teammates and together became World Series champions in 2020.
Although Bellinger was released by the Dodgers in 2022 and subsequently picked up by the Chicago Cubs, he left the team having gained a valuable skill from Hernández.
As Bellinger prepares to join the New York Yankees, he expressed to manager Aaron Boone his willingness to play any position necessary for the team’s success.
Bellinger noted, “I told [Boone] that wherever you need me to play, I’ll play. Whether it’s left, center, or right, I’m ready. I even offered to play first base or fill in for [Aaron] Judge as a DH. I learned a lot from Kiké Hernández, who excelled in playing multiple positions on the field and I believe it’s important for winning teams.”
After leaving the Dodgers in 2021, Hernández became an everyday starter with the Boston Red Sox before returning to the Dodgers, showcasing his versatility and value to the team.
Hernández’s ability to play a variety of positions at a high level sets him apart from most players in the league. His versatility is unmatched, especially in critical moments during playoff games.
While Bellinger transitions to the Yankees, Hernández’s future in free agency remains uncertain. However, he has expressed his desire to return to the Dodgers for another shot at a championship run.
Hernández shared, “My main priority would be coming back to the Dodgers. I believe this team has the potential to make another championship run. If not with the Dodgers, I hope to join a team poised for playoff success as I crave the intensity and excitement of October baseball.”
