This is my daily chat with #RunBlogRun viewers and track fans on all things track & field!

This is Coffee with Larry for Monday, October 21 2024.

Coffee with Larry is our almost daily podcast on the global sport of track and field athletics.

Omius is the official cooling technology partner of RunBlogRun

Coffee with Larry is sponsored by OMIUS, the cooling technology company.

OMIUS makes hats, visors and head bands, with cooling pods, which, when moistened, with water, every 30-45 minutes, keeps you cool.

4. Many Kenyans are very upset about the accusations against Ruth Chepnegetich. One asked me if it was because Ruth was not white?

5. John Korir won the men’s race, taking a pack of ten through the half in 1:02:19, breaking the field of 7 down at 21 miles, and winning in 2:02:44 PB. Here’s my story: https://marathonhandbook.com/opinion-why-its-hard-to…/

Bank of America Chicago MarathonOctober 13, 2014Chicago, Illinois, USA

6. John’s win was overshadowed by the paradigm-shifting WR of Ruth Chepngetich, who became the first woman under 2:11 and 2:10, with a PB of 2:09;56, finishing 11th overall. Here’s Justin Lagat’s story: https://marathonhandbook.com/opinion-why-its-hard-to…/

6. Ruth Chepngetich won by 7 1/2 minutes, breaking world record by nearly two minutes. Here’s the story from Deji Ogeyingbo: https://www.runblogrun.com/…/gracious-and-brilliant

NorthEast FootLocker Regional, November 30, 2024, Franklin Park, Boston, MA.

12. 2024 West FootLocker regional, presented by HOKA, December 7, 2024, registration can be found here: https://footlockercc.com/west/

13. Amby Burfoot, former editor at RW, Boston 1968 Marathon champion, and one of our sport’s most thoughtful and conscientious writers, wrote this piece on his misgivings on the Women’s WR set by Ruth Chepngetich at the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon WR (posted October 15, 2024): https://marathonhandbook.com/opinion-why-its-hard-to…/

14. RunBlogRun has requested comments from both Athletics Integrity and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on the drug testing protocals used with Ruth Chepngetich. We will be reaching out to several other experts to provide a complete picture on the record. As a journalistic site on running, we must look at both sides of any photograph. The WR in Chicago was insane, as I called it, but to appreciate it, we must know if it is legitimate and with the amount of doping in Kenya, questions are only natural.

15. Pat Butcher did an amazing column on Ruth Chepnegetich and her amazing race: https://thepatbutcher.wordpress.com/2024/10/19/enough-already/

16. A fantastic podcast from Des Linden and Kara Goucher, #NobodyAskedUS, Chicago marathon, Recap or Rampage? Episode 2.34. Podcast is well done, Kara and Des are excellent, and give the viewer a great appreciation of the event through their eyes as, in one case, former World Class athlete (and World Champs medalist) and elite marathoner who won the Boston Marathon.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWCB3DwXdjs
