Conor McGregor has been left frustrated with the UFC’s lack of urgency regarding his return.
The Irishman has dove headfirst back into the gym, dedicating himself to his career as he did during his rise to superstardom. All focus has been on an eventual return to action for ‘The Notorious’, but the promotion has put a dent into any hopes he had of making an appearance at the UFC White House.
Conor McGregor believed he would feature at the upcoming event on June 14, with the rumored Michael Chandler clash his ideal bout.
“So, as I was aware, it was the White House,” McGregor said regarding his return to the UFC. “I was up for the White House. I know the administration was strong for me to be in the White House. It was McGregor versus Chandler. The story was built in. Chandler is a standup guy. He’s electric in the cage. He comes to bring it. I’m the Mac. I’ll fly through the air [with] an opponent like Chandler. It would have been dynamite as far as a fight.”
Michael Chandler will instead face the much younger, much hungrier Conor McGregor clone, Mauricio Ruffy. The South American has adopted a style similar to McGregor, birthing comparisons to the Dublin native.
While the Chandler vs. Ruffy matchup remains a must-see, McGregor believes it is he who should be lining up against the former Bellator lightweight champion on the White House lawn.
“Somewhere down the line, you know, not me ever saying no, or hey ho, not enough money or no, nothing. Just, you know, maybe we’re going to go with you for International Fight Week. Okay, no problem. Maybe we’re going to leave Chandler. You know, I do like Chandler. I might have been preparing for him for the last two years. I feel a bit weird, you know. He deserves to go after the waiting, and you know it would be a great fight.”
“It makes sense. It’s easily done. It gets me back in there. But, you know, they veered off it. I’m not going to be too picky. I have to get back. I’m eager to get back.”
With the Michael Chandler fight off the table, Conor McGregor is desperate to make his comeback imminently.
Expecting his next outing to be at welterweight, McGregor revealed he has had numerous offers from the UFC and has accepted each one to no avail. Anticipating some positive news in the near future, the 37-year-old forsees himself fighting for the BMF title.
“What weight Conor are you going to do? I’m going to do 170, as you know. I’m a big boy. A lot bigger than before. Okay, well, we’re going to offer you this opponent. Yes, no problem. I accept—day after day after day. No problem. Send the contract. Excellent. It’s a great matchup. That’s a great matchup. That’s a great matchup, is all you ever hear out of me. And no contract came. And that’s kind of where I’m at. Still here in this limbo… I hope a respectable offer comes through.”
“I’m notoriously good to deal with. I’m an honest man. I admire fairness, and I’m sure we can get it done. There you go. I assume the vibes I’m getting, and I don’t mind it at all, is the BMF… Maybe it’s me and [Charles Oliveira] for the next one… I’m motivated to compete, to return. To show my work, show my level, show where I am at today to the world. So, BMF is great. It puts a belt on the waist for sure. I’m for sure a bad man with a good heart. So, why not acquire the BMF title?”
