This game sure looks out of place in prime time, doesn’t it? The Dallas Cowboys are 3-5-1, the Las Vegas Raiders are 2-7, and yet this is taking up national television time? Unfortunately, this couldn’t get flexed out since it’s not within the Monday Night Football flex window, but maybe it’ll be entertaining because the Cowboys and Raiders don’t exactly have great defenses.
We’ve been watching the Raiders fairly closely given Pete Carroll and Geno Smith are the head coach/quarterback combo in Vegas, and so far it’s been an abject failure with a sprinkling of disaster. That duo went 9-8 twice in Seattle but 9-8 is not happening for the Raiders this year.
On the other side of the field, the Cowboys are coached by former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. So it’s like a big ol’ Seahawks reunion considering how many ex-Seahawks are on Pete’s coaching staff and roster, not to mention Schotty on the Cowboys.
Sadly, the backdrop to this game is the fact that this is the first one for Dallas since the tragic death of Marshawn Kneeland. The remainder of this season will be played in memory of Kneeland, and the Raiders have made this classy gesture.
