The Dallas Wings have named two-time WNBA Coach of the Year Curt Miller as their next general manager, the team announced Friday.
Miller, who recently coached with the Los Angeles Sparks and the Connecticut Sun, will be taking over in Dallas as part of a broader organizational reshuffling. This move comes after the team announced they were letting go of head coach Latricia Trammell and bringing in a new general manager to oversee the team’s basketball operations.
Miller has experience as a general manager, previously holding dual coach/GM roles with the Sun and leading the team to multiple WNBA Finals appearances. He expressed his excitement about joining the Wings and hopes to bring a championship to Dallas.
It was revealed that Miller was a finalist for the head-coaching position with the Wings a couple of years ago before taking the job with the Sparks. He will also take on the role of executive vice president of basketball operations in Dallas.
As the new general manager in Dallas, Miller will have the task of building a winning team, starting with the hiring of a new head coach and preparing for the upcoming expansion draft. The team will also learn their draft spot on Nov. 17 and are in a good position to receive a high pick.
There are key decisions to be made this offseason, with players like Natasha Howard and Satou Sabally potentially moving on to new teams. Despite a tough season last year, the Wings are determined to bounce back and compete for a playoff spot once again.
Additionally, the franchise announced promotions for Travis Charles and Jasmine Thomas to new roles within the organization. They are also planning on moving to a new practice facility and arena in downtown Dallas for the upcoming season.
