The Dallas Wings have emerged as the winners of the 2025 WNBA draft lottery, securing the first overall pick in the upcoming April event.
Entering the lottery with a strong chance of claiming the top pick, the Wings had a 22.7% probability of winning, second only to the Los Angeles Sparks (44.2%).
A key trade with the Chicago Sky in February 2023 further bolstered Dallas’ position. By acquiring Diamond DeShields, the Wings obtained Chicago’s 2023 first-round pick, a first-round pick in 2024, and the option to swap first-round picks with the Sky in 2025.
Following the lottery drawing, it was determined that the Wings would indeed swap picks with the Sky as Chicago secured the third overall selection.
The Los Angeles Sparks will make the second overall pick, with the Washington Mystics picking fourth. This marks the second time in five years that the Wings have secured the first overall pick. They previously drafted Charli Collier from Texas in 2021.
Top prospects like Paige Bueckers from Connecticut, Kiki Iriafen from USC, Aneesah Morrow from LSU, and Saniya Rivers from North Carolina State are expected to be key names in the top four picks. ESPN’s latest mock draft projects Bueckers as the top pick.
Excited about the opportunity to select first, Wings general manager Curt Miller expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming draft and the potential impact of a top pick on the team.
As Miller begins the process of assessing draft options, the focus also shifts towards hiring a new coach for the franchise, a task that has already generated considerable interest.
Despite facing travel challenges on draft day, Miller is eager to connect with the players and steer the Wings towards a successful draft and coaching transition.
