Throughout most of 2024, the rumored clash between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall has been shrouded in uncertainty, but that may have now changed.
‘Bones’ showcased a dominant performance in his first defense of the heavyweight throne in his last outing. Despite his victory and hints at not retiring, a matchup between the division’s king and the interim champion seemed unlikely.
After a period of silence, Dana White has now provided some positive news regarding the heavyweight showdown.
Speaking to the media after the final UFC event of the year, White confirmed that the fight would take place sometime in 2025.
“100% [Jones vs. Aspinall will happen],” White stated. “I believe it’s likely the most significant fight in heavyweight history and a huge event in the company’s history.”
White also commented on how Jones conducts business differently than other fighters on the roster.
“Typically, those fighters say such things [about not wanting to fight someone] behind closed doors, not publicly.”

“Jon expresses those thoughts publicly, not in private. He is quite a unique individual to work with.”
“From the beginning, I was confident that Jon Jones would accept this fight. Even before his last fight, I mentioned that if he won, there’s no way he wouldn’t take this fight.”
White went on to provide even more optimism for this highly-anticipated matchup.
“Behind the scenes, Jon Jones isn’t someone who turns down fights,” White asserted.
“Yes, I am certain that we will see Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall in 2025.”
In a bout being touted as the biggest in UFC heavyweight history, Dana White is confident that an agreement will be reached soon.
Although they are at different stages of their careers, a victory for either Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall would undoubtedly enhance their legacies in the sport.
Jones continues to pursue his goal of being the greatest fighter in mixed martial arts history—a goal many believe he has already accomplished.
