This Thursday, like every Thursday, I invite you to join me as I share my thoughts on boxing’s current events in a direct and honest manner. This week, we tackle questions and comments about Dana White entering boxing, PBC’s performance on Amazon Prime, and Devin Haney’s future.
Dana White in Boxing?
Hi Paul.
Thank you for your consistent excellent work.
What are your thoughts on Dana White’s potential move into professional boxing? Is this a serious endeavor this time?
With support from Turki and the Saudis, talk of a fighter league akin to UFC, interest in fighters like Callum Walsh, and tools like UFC Fight Pass, White seems to be setting the stage for a transition. Or is this just more talk?
Take care.
– John
Hey John.
Thank you.
In the eyes of Turki Alalshikh, Dana White’s appeal lies in his authoritarian image and his tough stance on managing fighters. The Saudi’s interest in creating a boxing league could benefit from White’s personality and reputation. While the streaming platform and his interest in select boxers play a role, what truly sets White apart is his strong persona. The potential for DAZN to broadcast the league is also a significant factor. White’s reputation makes him an ideal choice to lead the Saudi boxing project.
PBC, Not Ready for Prime Time?
Hi Magno.
Many have noticed that PBC’s run on Amazon Prime has been less than satisfactory. As a long-time boxing fan, I expect quality fights at a fair cost. PBC’s offerings on Prime have been subpar, and the recently announced Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach fight adds to the disappointment. Do you think PBC on Amazon Prime will improve?
– Dennis from Dallas
Hi Dennis.
PBC on Prime has not lived up to expectations. While there have been some good fights, the overall product has been lacking, especially considering the pay-per-view nature of the content. Organizational issues and a lack of response to negative publicity have affected PBC’s reputation. Higher quality matchmaking and a focus on developing their own fighters can enhance the viewer experience. The future of PBC on Prime remains uncertain, with more shows needed to elevate its standing in the boxing world.
Is Devin Haney Done?
Hi Paul.
Following his fight with Ryan Garcia, it appears that Devin Haney may be struggling both financially and mentally. Can he recover from this setback, or is his future in doubt?
–Luis
Hey Luis.
Devin Haney’s loss to Ryan Garcia was a blow to his confidence. While he may physically recover, the mental impact of the defeat could be significant. The lawsuit against Garcia may be a way to cope with the loss and rebuild his image. It will take time and effort for Haney to bounce back from this experience.
