During his time with the New York Giants, retired tight end Darren Waller only played one season which was marred by injuries. Despite this, he has immense respect for the team.
On the Ross Tucker Podcast, Waller spoke highly of the team’s ownership, praising them for being “present” and guiding the team in the right direction.
“I liked the Giants a lot…the ownership …paid for acupuncture and massages…they do things the right way…the way they treat families…”

Waller emphasized the importance of the small gestures that show the team cares about its players. He commended Dabes and Schoen for their efforts in building a strong organization that values player input.
The Giants traded for Waller from the Las Vegas Raiders last March in exchange for a third-round draft pick. Despite struggling with injuries, Waller managed to catch 52 passes for 352 yards and a touchdown during his time with the team.
Personal issues, including a divorce from WNBA star Kelsey Plum, weighed heavily on Waller and ultimately led to his decision to retire from football.
In an effort to fill the gap left by Waller, the Giants have signed veterans Jack Stoll and Chris Manhertz, and drafted Theo Johnson in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft. They are also keeping Daniel Bellinger and Lawrence Cager on the roster, with Cager showing improvement each year.
