The Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up a series sweep against the Pittsburgh Pirates with an extra-innings victory of 6-5 on Sunday. Teoscar Hernández, the outfielder, came through in the clutch once again for Los Angeles by driving in the winning run.
This season, it has become a common occurrence for Hernández to deliver in crucial moments, providing the Dodgers with confidence whenever he steps up to bat. Following the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised Hernández for his clutch performances throughout the season.
“It just looks like he embraces being in those spots… It’s hard to find a guy that you want in that spot more than Teo.
Hernández signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers in the offseason, and he has proven to be a valuable asset for Los Angeles. When discussing his approach during the winning hit, the right-hander stated, “I was just trying not to overthink it or overswing or anything like that… With a hit, we can win a ballgame, and that’s what I try to do.”
So far this season, Hernández has maintained a batting average of .275 with 26 home runs and 79 RBIs. He was selected as an All-Star for the Dodgers and has been one of the most consistent performers at the plate.
With this victory, the Dodgers maintained their lead in the division. They will go into Monday’s games with a 3.5-game advantage in the National League West, holding off competition from the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Next week, Los Angeles will hit the road to face the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals in a series of games.
