Freddie Freeman, first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, remains on the family emergency list as his son, Maximus, is fighting an illness. Freeman had initially traveled with the team to Houston for their series against the Astros, but he quickly returned to Los Angeles to be with his family during his son’s health crisis.
According to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Freeman is unlikely to rejoin the team for the remainder of their series against the Padres in San Diego. Roberts stated, “He’s still dealing with Max’s situation. I don’t expect him to return for this series, and we will assess the situation after the off day following this series.”
After playing the Padres, the Dodgers will head to Oakland to play the Athletics before returning to Dodger Stadium for matchups against the Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Freeman’s wife, Chelsea, provided updates on their son’s condition via Instagram. She mentioned, “Please keep Maximus in your prayers. The doctor says he developed transient synovitis after a viral infection during All-Star week.” She also shared details of their visit to the ER due to Maximus’ inability to sit, stand, or walk.
With Freeman unavailable, Cavan Biggio and Kiké Hernández have been filling in at first base for the eight-time MLB All-Star.
