The Chicago Sky recently solved an important part of the WNBA’s head coaching carousel by hiring former Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh. This hiring was well received, especially after reports praised Marsh for his player-development skills, particularly his work with three-time MVP A’ja Wilson.
Marsh played a significant role in developing A’ja Wilson into a three-time WNBA MVP and other accolades. Wilson’s success, along with the similar playing style of the Sky’s cornerstones Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, bodes well for the Sky’s future.
Both Cardoso and Wilson were coached by Dawn Staley at the University of South Carolina. Staley expects Marsh to have a positive impact on Cardoso’s development, similar to what he did for Wilson.
During a recent event hosted by the Las Vegas Aces, video footage captured Staley jokingly putting pressure on Marsh to help Cardoso thrive in the Sky. Despite the jest, Sky fans are hopeful that Marsh can replicate his success with Wilson.
While Staley’s comments were made in good fun, there is anticipation among Sky fans for Marsh to mold Cardoso into a dominant force in the paint like Wilson.
