According to sources, DeMar DeRozan and the Chicago Bulls did not come close to agreeing on a contract extension during the 23-24 season, as reported by Jamal Collier of ESPN.
Both DeRozan and Arturas Kanisovas had shown interest in continuing their partnership. DeRozan played a significant leadership role for the Bulls on and off the court, and also played a part in the development of the team’s young players.
When the Bulls made the decision to trade Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey before the draft in June, it became evident that they were moving in a different direction. Eventually, DeRozan was acquired by the Sacramento Kings in a sign-and-trade deal.
