Javonte Williams scored two touchdowns as the Denver Broncos defeated the New Orleans Saints 33-10 on Thursday night, marking coach Sean Payton’s return to New Orleans.
Bo Nix had 164 passing yards and 75 rushing yards for Denver (4-3), dominating the game statistically with 389 total yards compared to New Orleans’ 271. The Saints (2-5) suffered their fifth consecutive loss.
Due to Saints quarterback Derek Carr’s absence, rookies filled in for both teams.
Spencer Rattler, starting for New Orleans, struggled with inexperience and injuries to key offensive players.
The Saints were missing key receivers and linemen, while Rattler faced a tough Denver defense that ranked fourth in the NFL in yards allowed.
Despite Rattler’s efforts, he was sacked multiple times and lost two fumbles, one of which led to a Denver touchdown.
New Orleans’ defense couldn’t make any game-changing plays, allowing the Broncos to maintain control throughout the game.
At half-time, former QB Drew Brees was honored for his induction into the Saints Hall of Fame, with owner Gayle Benson presenting him with a blazer and unveiling a portrait of his Super Bowl win.
Brees, who brought New Orleans their only Super Bowl victory after the 2009 season, is celebrated as one of the franchise’s all-time greats.
The half-time festivities were a highlight for many fans in attendance, as the Superdome emptied out by the fourth quarter.
