Retired NBA point guard Derrick Rose had an impressive start to his career, but he didn’t truly appreciate it at the time.
During his first three years in the league, Rose achieved two All-Star appearances, an All-NBA First Team honor, and was named MVP in 2011, becoming the youngest player to receive such accolades.
His MVP season (2010-11) saw Rose averaging 25 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game, shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from three-point range.
However, Rose admitted that he was trying to emulate Kobe Bryant during that time, which affected his enjoyment of his success.
Despite his initial success, Rose’s career was plagued by injuries, preventing him from reaching the same level of performance in the years that followed. He will be remembered as one of the NBA’s biggest ‘what if’ players.
