On May 2 in Times Square, New York City, The Ring’s Fatal Fury: Times Square card occurred. It was shown exclusively on DAZN PPV. The event was presented by SNK Corporation – in association with Golden Boy Promotions and Matchroom Boxing. On the card was the return of Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC), who defeated Jose Ramirez (29-3, 18 KOs) by unanimous decision in a dull 12-round clash. Following that fight and the rest of the card, Oscar De La Hoya spoke to Fight Hub TV, reflecting on the event and delivering a stinging assessment of Haney’s performance.

Devin Haney Criticised for Cautious Win Over Jose Ramirez

‘Just Starts Running for His Life’ – Oscar De La Hoya Rips Haney

It was a fight where not much happened. Haney seemed worried about being hit and spent most of the bout moving, while Ramirez tried to walk him down – without much success. Every round was a near-carbon copy of its predecessor and despite Haney not doing much, he did more than his opponent and collected the unanimous decision win (119-109 x2 and 118-110). It was a much-needed win for “The Dream” but the performance leaves unanswered questions.

When reflecting on the action from May 2 and evaluating Haney’s performance, De La Hoya did not mince his words: “I feel bad for Turki, I really do. He’s paying all this money to the fighters, ok, to turn out, to show up and fight and give the fight fans what the fans deserve.

“And those are great fights. Show up! Not just dancing around like Bill Haney and Devin Haney. I mean, my gosh, he was tagged a couple of times by Ramirez and he just gets on his bicycle and just starts running for his life. Jesus.”

De La Hoya added: “Anyway, he’s done.”
