USA Basketball’s Olympic dominance is unmatched on both the men’s and women’s sides of the coin, but Diana Taurasi has a chance to do what no basketball player has ever done on an Olympic court.
Taurasi is on the verge of her sixth career gold medal, aiming to win one last championship with the Team USA women. Women’s basketball has evolved in every way possible since she first stepped on an Olympic court, but the United States’ dominance hasn’t.
The U.S. women’s basketball team hasn’t lost a game at the Olympics since 1992, winning eight consecutive gold medals. Taurasi has been a part of five of them, and she’s aiming to make it six as she wraps up her international career.
Here’s a complete look at Taurasi’s track record of success at the Olympics, including her Team USA records.

USA women’s basketball has dominated for nearly three decades, and Taurasi was no small part of it during her peak. A former WNBA MVP, Taurasi has graduated to more of a leadership role in her final Olympic run but was once one of the top producers on a loaded American roster.

Taurasi is taking on a more symbolic role in 2024, starting games but seeing limited action with the rest of the offense. She only scored one basket in three games during group play.
At her peak, though, Taurasi averaged double-digit points per game in three consecutive Olympics despite such a crowded, talented roster around her. She scored 15.6 points per game in 2016, shooting nearly 57 percent from the field when the U.S. won its sixth consecutive gold medal.

Diana Taurasi Team USA Olympic records
Taurasi holds the USA women’s basketball record for games played and most Olympic medals won, tied with Sue Bird. She also holds the team record for most 3-pointers in a game (6).
Elsewhere, Taurasi isn’t hard to find on leaderboards. She’s second in team history with 414 points, behind only Lisa Leslie, third in assists, sixth in rebounds, and eighth in steals. Taurasi also entered 2024 with the sixth-best 3-point percentage in team history.
Nothing matters more to Taurasi than gold medals, and she will stand alone with a record that will be extraordinarily difficult to break if she and Team USA can finish the job and win gold in Paris.
