What is the holiday season all about? Gift exchanges, festive cheers, and cozy family moments, right? For Connecticut Sun star DiJonai Carrington, however, this Christmas has encompassed a mix of emotions. Still grieving the recent loss of her grandfather, she is slowly but surely starting to embrace the holiday spirit. Yet, this newfound peace was not attained without encountering some drama this year.
Carrington recently took to her Instagram story to share a glimpse of her Christmas celebrations. Seated elegantly in the passenger seat beside her dad, NFL legend Darren Carrington, she excitedly revealed, “Look who got a new whip for Christmas.” The dazzling new Tesla was truly a standout gift, especially considering Tesla’s staggering market cap of $1.385 trillion as of December 2024.
While it may seem like a perfect way to dive into the festive season, her holidays were not without their share of chaos, thanks to a troubling encounter with an Uber driver that quickly went viral. In a rollercoaster of events that unfolded that night, the Connecticut star took to Instagram Live to recount a strange and unsettling experience with the driver.

What should have been a routine ride with friends turned sour when a dispute with the driver over music escalated, leading to their ejection and threats to involve the police. “This situation is insane, and I had to expose it in real-time,” Carrington shared with her viewers.
So DiJonai Carrington jokes about breaking something of her Uber driver’s. Claims he tried to call the cops on her and her friends and they are the victims of racism. Where is the proof that he tried to call the cops? Then says he spoke Arabic instead of Spanish. Translation? pic.twitter.com/JkuwIVHOcS

She boldly called out the driver for his actions, highlighting the misuse of authority. “I don’t understand why people think they can intimidate others by threatening to involve the police. We did nothing wrong, so go ahead and call them,” she affirmed.
The night took another unexpected turn when the driver attempted to converse with another Uber driver in Spanish. Fortunately, their new driver allowed them to play their music, and the evening carried on. However, it wasn’t quite the festive atmosphere she had hoped for. Hopefully, the Tesla and quality time with family brought some solace amid the chaos.
Interestingly, this wasn’t even the most challenging scenario the athlete has encountered this year.
DiJonai Carrington faced harassment amid the WNBA season
Let’s revisit September when Carrington found herself in the midst of a disturbing backlash. It all stemmed from an on-court incident during a game against Caitlin Clark’s Fever. In a widely publicized matchup, Carrington accidentally caused Clark to sustain a black eye. While Clark acknowledged it was unintentional, certain “fans” took it to unacceptable levels.

Following the incident, Carrington endured threats, stalking, and relentless harassment online. Her girlfriend, Indiana Fever forward NaLyssa Smith, stood up fiercely for her in a viral social media post.
“My girlfriend has been receiving threats, being followed, and subjected to all sorts of abuse. So, if sending her flowers to ensure her mental well-being is seen as a problem, then so be it,” Smith clapped back at the detractors. In response to the escalating situation, the WNBA issued a strong statement denouncing harassment and abuse.
Despite all the challenges, it appears she is striving to find joy amidst the turmoil, especially with the holiday season and gifts. While this Christmas may not be flawless, the Most Improved Player of the Year is seeking solace amid the storm.
