Tempe, AZ – After another summer has come and gone, it is now time once again to welcome students back to college campuses across the country for the start of another college tennis season. With a new look to the fall season, players will be on the road to the NCAA Individual Championships this fall as the tournament moves to November and the fall season.
As countless players return to their teams looking to improve on their game from last year, several highly touted newcomers will also be beginning their college tennis careers this fall. To help fans grasp where returning players and newcomers sit to start the season, the ITA has once again released its Division I Women’s Collegiate Tennis Preseason Singles and Doubles Rankings as well as the ITA Division I Women’s Newcomer Rankings.
Coming back to College Station after a program-defining year in which she helped lead Texas A&M to their first NCAA Team Championship, Mary Stoiana will be making her return to college tennis for the 2024-25 season. Being crowned the 2023 ITA All-American Champion last season, Stoiana was the Honda Award winner for tennis and has just recently competed in the US Open qualifying draw.
The ITA Women’s Doubles Rankings sees the pairing of Ange Oby Kajuru and Anastasiya Komar enter the season as the top-ranked doubles team. Pairing up for the first time last season, this duo was an influential part of the Cowgirl team that only lost one match the entire season and that won the 2024 ITA Division I Women’s National Team Indoor Championships.
Finally, in the newcomer rankings, Maya Joint will be listed as the top newcomer in the country as she makes her way to Austin, Texas to play for the Longhorns. Earning her first Grand Slam main draw win at the 2024 US Open, Joint ranks No. 135 in the WTA Singles Rankings and will be the highest WTA ranked player in all college tennis. In Austin, Joint is set to join three other newcomers who all sit with Joint at the top of the newcomer rankings.
