Experiencing a series loss against the Phillies, reliever Brusdar Graterol suffered a disappointing exit from Tuesday’s game.
The right-hander had been dealing with a shoulder injury throughout the season while playing in Triple-A. He returned from the IL on August 5 and made his 2024 season debut the following day against the Phillies. Graterol threw only eight pitches in the sixth inning before experiencing discomfort. He left the mound with tears in his eyes, supported by third baseman Kiké Hernandez and trainer Thomas Albert.
Initially, manager Dave Roberts reported that Graterol had suffered a Grade 3 hamstring strain, which would have prematurely ended his season. However, it was later revised to a less severe Grade 1 strain.
Although there is hope that Graterol may return towards the end of the season, there is currently no set timeline for his recovery.
Graterol shared an optimistic message on X, expressing gratitude for the support he has received. He also included a translated version of the message for his Spanish-speaking fans.
With Graterol now added to the list of injured relievers for the Dodgers, including Ryan Brasier, Blake Treinen, and Connor Brogdon, the bullpen will face challenges.
Known for his productive contributions to the bullpen, Graterol achieved career-highs in various categories last season. His impressive performance in 2023 included 68 appearances, a 1.20 ERA, 48 strikeouts, and four wins.
Since being traded to the Dodgers from the Minnesota Twins in 2020, Graterol has been a valuable asset to the team, contributing to their World Series win in his first season.
Whether he returns this season or not, the 25-year-old has a promising future ahead in a Dodgers uniform.
