Following an offseason spending spree exceeding $1 billion, the Los Angeles Dodgers believed they had put together a roster capable of winning the World Series. However, as the July 30 trade deadline approaches, the Dodgers find themselves with a long list of injured players who are crucial to their success.
Despite the injuries to key players like Mookie Betts, Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Max Muncy, and others, the Dodgers are not in a hurry to make trades. If they do decide to make moves before the deadline, they will focus on acquiring players who can make an impact not just in the short term but in the postseason and beyond.
General manager Brandon Gomes explained, “We’re fortunate to be in a good position in the division right now, so that will influence our decisions. We need to assess if we need immediate help or if we can afford to wait and make bigger moves for the future.”
Surprisingly, the Dodgers are not actively looking to add starting pitchers, as Gavin Stone and Landon Knack have filled in nicely. However, they might consider Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet due to his reasonable contract and control years. While they have a solid shortstop in Miguel Rojas, they are seeking an outfielder who can play regularly and complement the platoon roles.
Gomes emphasized, “We are focusing more on long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes. The young players on our roster are developing well, so we believe there is no urgent need to make drastic changes. However, we are constantly evaluating and things can change as the deadline approaches.”
