Brandon Gomes, the general manager of the Dodgers, gave an update on starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow during the Winter Meetings in Dallas. Glasnow had been sidelined in September due to a sprained elbow, following an injury that started the month before.
“He’s feeling good,” Gomes stated. “Our doctors are telling us he’s in a good place.”
Gomes mentioned seeing a positive video of Glasnow recently. While Glasnow has started his throwing program, the real test will come closer to spring training.
“This is typical for any pitcher in the offseason,” Gomes explained. “You won’t know much until they get on the mound, but we expect no issues as he progresses.”
Despite having a successful first season with the Dodgers, Glasnow’s season ended with a serious injury. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 16, which was initially thought to be a precaution for the postseason.
However, what was initially thought to be elbow tendinitis turned out to be a more severe injury. In his first season with Los Angeles, Glasnow had a 3.49 ERA and went 9-6, with 168 strikeouts in 134 innings.
Although Glasnow had strong stats, he missed the entire postseason due to his injury. When the Dodgers acquired Glasnow and invested $136.5 million, there was a level of risk due to his injury history with the Tampa Bay Rays.
If his recovery progresses as expected, Glasnow should be ready to pitch in the Tokyo series season opener against the Chicago Cubs. The Dodgers’ 2025 starting rotation is set to include Glasnow, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shohei Ohtani among its aces.
