The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking forward to the return of several players from the injured list as the second half of the season begins, but the comeback of third baseman Max Muncy remains uncertain.
Muncy was initially placed on the 10-day IL on May 17 due to a right oblique strain. Manager Dave Roberts had hoped for a quick return to the lineup, but Muncy has faced setbacks and is now on the 60-day IL.
According to Fabian Ardays of The Athletic, Muncy took some swings with a bat for soft toss on Friday, but there is no set timeline for his return.
Muncy also discussed his recovery process on “Foul Territory” and the challenges he has faced.
“I’ve tried to ramp things up multiple times, but my body hasn’t responded well to the treatments we’ve tried,” Muncy explained. “We’re still trying to figure out the issue, which is why the recovery is taking longer than expected.”
It is likely that Muncy won’t be back until at least August, and the Dodgers are cautious about rushing his return. With the trade deadline approaching, they may consider bringing in a temporary replacement if Muncy is not fully recovered.
