Jose D. Hernandez, shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been suspended for one year after testing positive for boldenone and nandrolone in baseball’s minor league drug program, as reported by the Associated Press.
At 21 years old, Hernandez will sit out the next Arizona Complex League season due to the positive drug test.
Hernandez joined the Dodgers as a minor league free agent in July 2019. During the recent season in the Arizona Complex League, he had a slash line of .302/.394/.512 with four home runs, 21 RBIs, and an OPS of .906 in 26 games. He also recorded six doubles, eight walks, and five stolen bases while striking out 21 times.
Throughout his career in the minors since 2021, Hernandez has a slash line of .268/.390/.434 with 11 home runs and 77 RBIs across 135 games. He will have to wait until the 2025 season to play again.
Originally from Venezuela, Hernandez signed with the Dodgers in 2019 with a deal that included a $10,000 signing bonus.
