After a lengthy offseason wait, Hernández and the Dodgers have finally come to terms on a contract that will see him stay in Los Angeles for the next three seasons.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Hernández’s deal includes a fourth-year option worth $15 million, over $23 million in deferred money, and a $23 million signing bonus.
Throughout the free agency process, Hernández made it clear that his top priority was to return to the Dodgers. Despite initial delays in contract negotiations, the two sides eventually found common ground.
Hernández will now continue to don the Dodgers uniform for the next three seasons, with the possibility of extending for a fourth.
Hernández signed with the Dodgers on a one-year deal to prove his worth in free agency, and he surpassed expectations with a remarkable performance in the World Series.
In the regular season, Hernández appeared in 154 games, hitting .272 with 33 home runs, 99 RBIs, and an OPS of .840. His postseason contributions included three home runs and an OPS of .769.
A reunion with Hernández was a logical move for the Dodgers given their need for another outfield bat. Hernández will now join Tommy Edman and Michael Conforto in the outfield, solidifying the team’s lineup for years to come.
