As the 2024 MLB season comes to a close, one of the key questions for the Los Angeles Dodgers is whether they will re-sign outfielder Teoscar Hernández. Hernández joined the Dodgers in January on a one-year, $23.5 million contract, making him eligible for free agency after the season.
Hernández has been a valuable addition to the Dodgers, especially considering the major signings of players like Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Tyler Glasnow. Despite his modest contract, Hernández has been a standout player for the Dodgers this season.
So far, Hernández has compiled impressive stats, with a .267/.333/.488 slash line, 143 hits, 76 runs, 28 home runs, and 87 RBIs in 140 games. He ranks second on the team in various categories, showcasing his consistency and reliability throughout the season.
Despite injuries to key players like Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, and Freddie Freeman, Hernández has been a steady force for the Dodgers. He even made his second All-Star Game appearance and became the first Dodger to win the Home Run Derby.
In various interviews, Hernández has expressed his desire to stay with the Dodgers beyond his current contract. He sees the team as a place where he can be successful and aims to be a part of their future plans.
Having played for multiple teams in the past, Hernández feels a sense of belonging with the Dodgers and hopes to secure a long-term deal with the team. His performance and dedication have certainly made a strong case for the Dodgers to consider retaining him for the upcoming years.
