The Los Angeles Dodgers are honoring the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant by giving the first 40,000 game attendees a special jersey on Sunday, in celebration of his birthday.
This comes after Bryant’s actual birthday on Aug. 23, and Kobe Bryant Day on Aug. 24, recognized by the city of Los Angeles and Orange County.
The jerseys will feature a black snake print design to pay tribute to the Black Mamba, with a “KB” patch on the sleeve. The jersey will display both of Bryant’s iconic numbers, with No. 8 on the front and No. 24 on the back.
The Dodgers have dedicated the weekend to celebrating Bryant, including a Lakers-themed drone show on Friday to honor the 2020 NBA Finals-winning team.
On Saturday, Lakers Showtime t-shirts will be given to the first 40,000 fans, featuring legends like Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Bryant played a role in helping the Dodgers recruit Shohei Ohtani in 2017 by recording a video message for him.
During “Mamba Week” in 2020, Nike declared Bryant’s birthday week as a special celebration, with various events planned in Los Angeles.
Events like the release of the “LA Royal” merch collection by The Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, and the unveiling of a statue of Bryant and Gianna outside Crypto.com Arena, showcase the ongoing impact of Bryant’s legacy.
The weekend festivities at Dodgers Stadium are a tribute to Bryant’s legacy as a Los Angeles athlete, highlighting his influence beyond the basketball court.
Los Angeles will always remember Kobe Bryant as a true inspiration.
