The trade between the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays was confirmed on Friday, with former Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Yimi García heading from Canada to the Pacific Northwest. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
In exchange for García, outfielder Jonatan Clase and minor league catcher Jacob Sharp are headed to the Blue Jays.
García, who was in his third season with the Blue Jays, is currently in a lucrative contract that has now grown due to performance bonuses and incentives.
Seattle’s acquisition of García follows another significant move bringing outfielder Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Mariners.
Throughout his career, García has maintained a solid performance with a 3.54 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 26 saves, and 424 strikeouts to 92 walks over 389.1 innings.
