A video of the domestic violence incident on Sept. 3, 2023 involving Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías has been published by the Los Angeles Times, leading to the team cutting ties with him.
In the video, Urías can be seen walking and then running after two women outside BMO stadium, where he was attending an LAFC game with his wife on the night of the incident. He is then restrained by a man in street clothes while attempting to strike the two women.
The 72-second video was provided to The Times by the California Highway Patrol, who investigated the incident.
Following the incident, Urías was sentenced to 36 months of summary probation and 30 days of community labor in May. He has not played since being placed on the restricted list by the Dodgers last September.
Most faces in the video, including Urías’ wife, were blurred in compliance with California privacy rights, as reported by The Times’ Bill Shaikin, based on information from CHP.
According to the CHP report, Urías and his wife are listed as the only “involved parties.”
MLB placed Urías on administrative leave after the incident and, at 28 years old, he remains a free agent. He may become the first player disciplined twice under MLB’s joint domestic violence policy if he decides to return to the league.
An anonymous league spokesperson mentioned in The Times’ report stated that “MLB is continuing to gather all the relevant evidence” in the investigation.
Urias played 158 games with the Dodgers from 2016-23, winning 60 games in the regular season. He was part of the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series victory, pitching the final out in Game 6 against the Tampa Bay Rays. He led the National League in wins in 2021 and earned-run average in 2022.
