Don Ferrarese, a former big league left-handed pitcher, passed away at the age of 95 earlier this month. Originally from Oakland, Ferrarese attended Saint Mary’s in the Bay Area before beginning his minor league career in 1948. It took him seven seasons to make it to the majors with the Orioles, where he made his debut in 1955 at the age of 25. Ferrarese then played for the Orioles and the Indians before being traded to the White Sox in a six-player deal. He also had stints with the Phillies and Cardinals before retiring in 1962. Over his eight-year MLB career, Ferrarese posted an even 4.00 earned run average in 506 2/3 innings, starting 50 of his 183 appearances, winning 19 games, and striking out 350 batters.
