Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green offered strong praise for teammate Jonathan Kuminga this week, highlighting the young forward’s attitude after Kuminga formally requested a trade from the Warriors. Green called how Kuminga has handled the situation impressive, especially given his age and the uncertainty around his future.

Kuminga signed a two-year, $47 million contract this past offseason but had not been part of head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation in recent games when he became eligible to be traded on Jan. 15. Kuminga’s role has fluctuated over his five years in Golden State, and his minutes have dwindled this season before he pushed for a fresh start.

Green Highlights Kuminga’s Professionalism

Green didn’t mince words when discussing how Kuminga has acted off the court. “He’s dealing with it better than probably I would,” Green said on Prime Video’s Nightcap. He noted Kuminga has stayed engaged, worked out every day, and kept a positive attitude despite frustration that often comes with reduced playing time and trade noise.

Green added that Kuminga enters the facility with a smile and even talks more than some teammates while on the bench — something Green labeled a compliment to his mentality. He said this attitude doesn’t just help Kuminga now, but will benefit him throughout his entire career and life.

Kuminga’s Response and Numbers

Kuminga has not publicly dwelled on the drama, and Green’s praise suggests the Warriors’ locker room respects how he handles himself. In 18 games this season, he has averaged 11.8 points and 6.2 rebounds and shot 43.1 percent from the field. Over 276 career games with Golden State, Kuminga’s scoring average sits at 12.5 points per game on 50.2 percent shooting.

His ability to stay professional shines through even though his role has dropped significantly. Green’s endorsement helps show teammates still see Kuminga as a valuable player, regardless of trade talk.

Team Outlook Ahead of Deadline

The Warriors have not yet moved on the trade request, and league sources say no deal is imminent. Teams like Sacramento, the Lakers, Bulls and Mavericks have shown interest in exploring fits involving Kuminga, but negotiations remain early. Green and other veterans insist the situation hasn’t distracted the team from winning, as Golden State works to remain competitive in the Western Conference.

Green’s praise underscores one key point: despite trade uncertainty, Kuminga’s work ethic and attitude have drawn respect from teammates and could benefit him wherever his career leads.
