Much uncertainty has surrounded the Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev rumored bout in the past week, but Du Plessis’ coach may have finally called a halt to the negative reports.
In an unorthodox manner, ‘Stillknocks’ has fought his way to UFC gold and has painted a target on his own back while doing so. The middleweight king has several huge names vying for a chance at his throne, but one man stands out above the rest.
Khamzat Chimaev has retained his undefeated record through his many trials and tribulations under the UFC banner. Though arguably a couple of years later than expected, ‘Borz’ is ready to challenge for a title inside the octagon.
Despite all signs pointing toward a Du Plessis vs. Chimaev affair, injury rumors stunted those plans. Now, the South African’s coach has weighed in on the reports.
“We’ve been talking to the UFC,” coach Morne Visser said. “Myself, Dricus, and the UFC’s been on the same page about this whole thing from the word go.”
“We haven’t signed a contract, and the fight was never confirmed. We were talking about it and [there’s been] no injuries, man. That’s bullsh*t.”
Coach Visser confirmed that, despite the rumors of different opponents, Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev is the fight that will happen next.
“We’re fighting Khamzat. We’re actually waiting for the contract. So, it’s going to be soon. Definitely not going to be International Fight Week, they’ve got something else planned for that.”
“We’re fighting Khamzat, we’re waiting for the contract. So, it’s a done deal.”

Morne Visser then took a shot at Khamzat Chimaev, insisting that if the fight doesn’t go ahead, it’ll be on Chimaev’s shoulders.
“If he doesn’t pull out. I mean, you’ve seen how many times he pulled out when it comes to real action.”
“He pulls out a lot.”
