Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
Execs, coaches, scouts rank NFL’s top 10 tight ends for 2024 – ESPN+7. Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles. Highest ranking: 4 | Lowest ranking: Out of top 10Age: 29 | Last year’s ranking: 4. Goedert’s production dipped in 2023, averaging 10 yards per catch on 59 receptions, compared to an average of 13.8 the previous two years. But, to his credit, the Eagles offense collapsed in the second half of the season. But expect Goedert, who’s still in his prime, to embrace new coordinator Kellen Moore’s offense in 2024. Production aside, Goedert gets it done in various ways. “[He’s] one of the few that can block at a high level and still receive,” a high-ranking NFL official said. “He’s a lot like [George] Kittle in that way.” Goedert can make things happen with the ball in his hands. His average of 5.4 yards after the catch per reception, which ranked fourth among this tight end group, reflects that. Philadelphia relies heavily on Goedert for run-pass option screens and underneath plays. He has seam-stretching ability, but the presence of wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith could continue to suppress his bottom line.
Brian Baldinger offers his take on how the Eagles’ offensive line is shaping up – BGNNFL Network expert Brian Baldinger, who possesses one of the keenest eyes when it comes to offensive line play, recently took a few minutes with Bleeding Green Nation to discuss what potentially could be the 2024 Eagles’ offensive front, the most important position group on the team. Most depth charts have the Eagles starting, from right to left: perennial stalwart Lane Johnson at right tackle, 2023 third-round pick Tyler Steen at right guard, 2022 second-round pick Cam Jurgens starting at center, with more stability coming on the left behind left guard Landon Dickerson, a rising star, and left tackle Jordan Mailata. But Baldinger likes a couple of sleepers who could emerge. “Mekhi Becton (the 11th overall pick in the 2020 draft by the New York Jets) had some knee issues in the past, but he has more power than anyone on the whole team,” Baldinger said. “He is the best run blocker that the Eagles have. If he is healthy, he will play right guard for them. They are working him in there. I would keep an eye on Mekhi. He is on their depth chart backing up Mailata right now at left tackle. He is a big guy. I think Becton has a shot at being right guard. Right now, Tyler Steen probably has the advantage there because he knows the Eagles’ system. Steen has been projected to be that guy.”
4 NFL head coaches quietly on the hot seat in 2024 season – SB NationNick Sirianni. The Eagles proved with Pederson that sentimentality doesn’t get in their way of making tough decisions. Yes, Sirianni has been a good coach in Philly with a 34-17 record in three seasons and he nearly won the Super Bowl in his second season. Yet, this is a team built to win Super Bowls. So, the Eagles’ ugly late-season collapse in 2023 puts Sirianni in warming distance of the hot seat. The Eagles started the season 10-1 and looked, by far, like the best team in the league. Yet, they suddenly crumbled, losing five of their final six games to somehow blow the NFC East title. They were pounded by Tampa Bay in the first round of the playoffs. The scariest part was the Eagles looked like a bad team down the stretch. There were some rumors that Sirianni could have been forced out in January after that choke job, but the Eagles saw enough in him to keep him. With this roster and the expectations, Sirianni must deliver now. A Wild Card spot and a first round playoff departure may not fly in Philly for a second season in the row. Ownership might decide that the team’s Super Bowl window is now and conclude Sirianni isn’t the coach to deliver a championship if he doesn’t rebound this season.
Ranking the Eagles’ current uniform combinations – PhillyVoice2. Kelly Green Jerseys/Silver Pants. I discussed a lot about Kelly green above. It’s akin to the Phillies’ powder blue uniforms. They’re classic and it’s a treat to see them once in a while, but the shine would be less if they wore them every single time. The organization has a good setup going. A midnight green choice looms at the top of the list… Still, they’re great! I’m doubtful they’d do it because of the way the Kelly green jerseys print money, but, in the future, I’d prefer to see the Eagles do a Kelly green helmet/white jersey/silver pants combination. Randall Cunningham made that look so effortlessly cool back in the day.
Best of the 90’s – Iggles BlitzThere shouldn’t be too many questions about WR. You can make an argument for Calvin Williams, but Barnett and Fryar were better players. Barnett was the big play guy. “Arkansas Fred” averaged 15 yards per catch in his Eagles career. Fryar was a workhorse receiver. He caught 174 passes in 1995-96. He also had 17 TDs. The offense fell apart in 1998 and Fryar didn’t exactly help matters. Still, he was great for two years. Beyond being a terrific receiver, Fryar was an outstanding blocker. He was a tough, physical player and was perfect for Jon Gruden’s West Coast Offense.
University of Oklahoma partners with former Eagles executive Jake Rosenberg – PFTThe University of Oklahoma announced a partnership with former Eagles salary cap executive Jake Rosenberg. Rosenberg left the Eagles after the 2024 draft to start a consulting firm, and The Athlete Group will advise the Sooners in the transition to the new NIL era of college sports. The school said in a release the hire is designed “to place OU football at the forefront of talent analysis, acquisition and retention” with Rosenberg providing “counsel and support to its program.” Rosenberg, a friend of Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman since both were in elementary school, joined the NFL team in 2012 after a career as a trader in bonds and commodities. His official title with the Eagles was vice president of football administration, serving as Roseman’s right-hand man on the salary cap.
Week in the Life of An NFL Player: Jordan Mailata in Australia – PE.comJordan Mailata brought fans along for his return back to his hometown in Australia to announce the Eagles’ 2024 first round draft pick. Follow along in the latest Eagles Vlog, presented by Firstrust Bank.
Poll: What would you consider a successful 2024 season for the Cowboys? – Blogging The BoysThere’s no way anything less than another playoff win could be considered a success in any shape or form, regardless the circumstances. But what happens after that? Do the Cowboys have to win the divisional round, do they have to play for the Conference Championship? Or is the manner in which they play the final game (in whatever playoff round it happens to be) more important? The ultimate goal is obviously to make it to the Super Bowl. But is a Super Bowl win really the only measure by which to consider a season a success? What needs to happen for you to consider the 2024 season a success for the Cowboys? Tell us in the attached poll or in the comments below.
ESPN lists a Giant among top 10 edge defenders – Big Blue ViewA dangerous duo. The combination of Burns and Thibodeaux has the potential to be one of the most formidable edge-rushing duos in the NFL. The duo could also elevate the play of the entire defense, as a strong pass rush often leads to better performance from the secondary and linebackers which the Giants lack. Burns’ arrival in New York is more than just an addition of talent; it’s a strategic move by GM Joe Schoen to unlock the full potential of the Giants’ defense. If Burns can replicate the impact he had in Carolina, and if Thibodeaux can rise to the occasion, the Giants could see a significant improvement on the defensive side of the ball.
The 5 O’Clock Club – Commanders positional spending & cap space; how will Adam Peters change the roster in 2025? – Hogs HavenWhile the current roster looks like it is largely filled with ‘placeholders’ that allow the team to field a competitive but unspectacular team in 2024, it appears that Adam Peters is poised to use the 2025 draft, free agency and cap space to make a great deal more progress towards his ‘ideal’ roster next offseason when he will have almost complete freedom to shape it as he sees fit.
Ex-Broncos safety Justin Simmons: Being cut ‘challenging me in a positive way’ – NFL.comThe veteran remains one of several free agents languishing on the market — Eddie Jackson, Quandre Diggs, etc. — as we head toward training camp. The 30-year-old Simmons isn’t fretting about his current unemployment status but simply staying at the ready when his number is called. “Who knows? I could sign tomorrow, I could sign two weeks into camp, I could sign the first game of the season. You just never know how these things go,” he said. “So, it’s caused me to slow down and give up control because it’s not in my control.”
