Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
2024 NFL season: One pivotal rookie for each team – NFL.comQUINYON MITCHELL: The Eagles ranked second to last in pass defense last season and finished in the bottom five in TD-INT ratio allowed. There will be a great deal of pressure placed on Mitchell to play at a level beyond the expectations most rookie corners encounter upon entering the NFL. The coverage must be better if the Eagles hope to make it back to the Super Bowl.
Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Isaiah Rodgers has some success against A.J. Brown – BGNQuinyon Mitchell had some good reps against DeVonta Smith in 1-on-1. After allowing a reception on their first rep against each other, he broke up a Hurts pass and then had good coverage on the next incompletion.
Eagles stock up, stock down after preseason game vs. Baltimore – NBCSPCB Quinyon Mitchell. The Eagles’ rookie got the start on Friday and played both outside corner and in the slot. He nearly had a diving interception in the first quarter. Mitchell continues to play a ton in the slot and it seems pretty obvious the Eagles are preparing him for this role in the season. Even though it’s a relatively new position for the rookie, he doesn’t look out of place. It was also telling that Mitchell was out of the game before Kelee Ringo.
Vic Fangio: Quinyon Mitchell slot experiment may help get ‘best combination’ of Eagles CBs on the field – InquirerFuel mismanagement aside, Mitchell’s summer thus far has been devoid of many mistakes. The former Toledo standout has had several bright moments in his first training camp, even while learning both the nickel cornerback position and the more familiar outside corner spot in new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s system. Mitchell had a near-interception in the Eagles’ 16-13 preseason-opening win over the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, operating as the starting outside cornerback in the base defense but bumping inside to the slot when the Eagles used nickel packages. “I thought he did well,” Fangio said Sunday. “He played both nickel and outside corner. He’s a good player and he’s going to be a good player, we just have to be careful not to overload his plate too much. Because nickel is a full-time position as well as corner, and he’s having to learn both right now. And they’re two drastically different positions. So we have to constantly monitor that to make sure he’s capable of doing that.”
PS Game Review – PHI 16, BAL 13 – Iggles BlitzKenny Pickett – Not a great showing. The lack of good receivers didn’t do him any favors. Looked good when throwing to Calcaterra. Pickett was good on his short throws. They were accurate and looked smooth. Good timing when throwing over the middle. Not so good when he did try to go downfield. Pocket presence could have been better. Tanner McKee – I thought he looked more in command, but his numbers weren’t good because he didn’t have guys getting open and/or catching the ball.
Report: Eagles sign former Broncos safety Caden Sterns – Mile High ReportSterns is a former fifth-round pick who had a promising rookie year and was expected to make a big jump in year two. Unfortunately, a hip injury limited him to just 5 games in 2022 after he was showing promise once again. He was looking to bounce back in 2023, but a knee injury limited him to just one game. Sterns spent the offseason rehabbing his injury. He was activated off the PUP by the Broncos, but with their safety depth at the position, the team decided it would be best for both if they decided to part ways. The fact he failed a physical with the Panthers tells us that he may not have been 100% yet and his medicals could have contributed to them moving on as well. […] As for Sterns, he lands with another former defensive coach in Vic Fangio where he can compete for a roster spot in an Eagles secondary that struggled last season. However, he needs to put his injury struggles behind him if he wants to recapture what he had during his rookie season and prior to his injuries the past two seasons.
Jerod Mayo Doubles Down On Plan For Drake Maye Vs. Eagles – NESNDrake Maye took just six snaps against the Carolina Panthers for a very quick glimpse at the No. 3 overall pick in his first training camp for the Patriots. Jerod Mayo assured that Thursday was just one game and Maye would have plenty of time to develop in upcoming matchups. He reaffirmed that on Sunday as the Patriots prepare to host joint practices and another preseason tilt with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dallas Cowboys injuries: Tackle Chuma Edoga in boot following preseason loss against Rams – Blogging The BoysEdoga is potentially the Week 1 starting left tackle and if not then he is the team’s primary swing tackle (this is in a world where rookie Tyler Guyton supplants him by then). That kind of depth is extremely valuable. The Cowboys depth on the offensive line looked a little suspect against the Rams as Trey Lance saw plenty of pressure. Getting Edoga back will be important for the overall offensive line picture.
New York Giants stock up, stock down after one preseason game – Big Blue ViewDrew Lock — The way Lock played Thursday night (4 of 10, 17 yards, a terrible interception, and an 8.3 passer rating) was enough to give anyone thinking he is better than Daniel Jones pause. In fact, I’m sure it makes Tommy DeVito fans wonder why the Giants signed Lock in the first place. Now, Lock is hurt and the Giants might have to sign another quarterback to help them get through the preseason. […] Azeez Ojulari — The 2021 second-round pick has had a pair of injury-plagued seasons. He did not appear to fare well during joint practices with the Lions, and had just two tackles while playing 35 snaps (50%) on Thursday. Ojulari also watched Oghoufo, Whitley and Basham play well. Stock down for the press box announcer who kept calling him “Olujari,” too.
Commanders Vs. Jets (Preseason Game 1) – Studs and Duds – Hogs HavenJayden Daniels – He played very well in limited time. The 42 yard dot he dropped to Brown was a thing of beauty. he went 2-3 for 45 yards and had a rushing touchdown in his NFL debut.
Caleb Williams dazzles in his NFL debut for the Chicago Bears – SB NationAfter sitting out the Hall of Fame Game last week against the Houston Texans, Caleb Williams made his much-anticipated NFL debut Saturday against the Buffalo Bills. It did not take long for the hype around the rookie QB — and first-overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft — to reach the stratosphere. Williams got the start for the Chicago Bears on Saturday against the Bills, leading his team on a pair of scoring drives in the first quarter. Williams exited the game having completed 4-of-7 passes for 95 yards, as well as adding one run for 13 yards, as the Bears finished both of his possessions with a field goal.
