On September 21, (22-2, 21 KOs) at Wembley Stadium London, Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) destroyed a resurgent Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) via a fifth-round KO. Speculation has been rife about what will AJ do next. He’s been linked with a rematch with Dubois – right to an odd match-up with Jake Paul. Eddie Hearn alongside Frank Warren spoke to Sky Sports, with Hearn mentioning possible opponents for the return of Joshua.

Eddie Hearn Explores Possible Opponents for Anthony Joshua

Eddie Hearn Discusses Return of Anthony Joshua

Many are writing AJ off following the crushing defeat to Dubois, but Joshua has bounced back before following defeats to Andy Ruiz and Usyk twice. Despite some niggling injury problems delaying his return, his promoter Eddie Hearn is seemingly only looking at big fights for the 2012 Olympic gold medallist:

“There’s two fights for AJ that really stoke the fire. One is the rematch with Daniel Dubois and the other one is Tyson Fury, which is out of our control at the moment, but we hope that something can kickstart that fight, but that’s down to Tyson so if he doesn’t fight one of those two guys, he has to fight someone and he’s going to wanna fight someone in the top 10, and Joseph Parker right now is on one of the hottest runs,” said Eddie Hearn regarding the possibilities for Anthony Joshua.

Hearn continued: “If Dubois doesn’t fight Usyk, I’d like to see Dubois fight Parker as well because I think Joe deserves a shot at the heavyweight title. Obviously, if there’s a big Unification fight/undisputed then Joe’s gonna need another dance partner and maybe it’s a Joshua rematch, added Hearn.”

The Future for Anthony Joshua

Whatever comes next for AJ, it’s pretty clear there will be no tune-up fight for the ex-unified heavyweight champion. Injuries permitting, we should be seeing AJ at some point in 2025. His opponent remains unclear, but the question remains; Can Anthony Joshua return to the top table in the heavyweight division?
